Australia Zoo Tour

Australia Zoo is a wonderful wildlife park in Queensland and is house to around 1,200 indigenous and unique species. The zoo is situated in the Queensland on the Sunshine Coast near Beerwah/Glass House Mountains.

This famous zoo begin by Bob and Lyn Irwin on 3rd of June in 1970 with the name of Beerwah Reptile and Fauna Park. After this, zoo is run by famous Steve Irwin, son of Bob and Lyn, who is also known by the name of The Crocodile Hunter. Steve begin helping his parents from his childhood days in caring of crocodiles and reptiles. This zoo is rename in 1982 as Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park. But Steve and his wife Terri Irwin change its name as Australia Zoo.

Unfortunately Steve is no more now. He died on 4th of September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while filming an underwater documentary film titled Ocean’s Deadlies. But now the Zoo is run and managed by Terri Irwis and Wes Mannion(Director of series of The Crocodile Hunter).


In this zoo, Guests will see a large range of birds, mammals and reptiles, and also can see crocodile feeding, hand-feed elephants, and have hands-on animal encounters.

The zoo separated into various exhibits. Such as;

The Crocoseum : The ‘Animal Planet Crocoseum’ stadium at the zoo has a seating capacity of about 5000. At the time of its construction, it was the first in the world where snake, bird, and crocodile shows were conducted.

Africa : The zoo opened its African Safari exhibit, a multi-species replica of the Serengeti ecosystem, showcasing zebras, rhinos, and giraffes interacting as they would in the wild. Cheetahs are also on display, but not in the area where the other animals are. The exhibit includes Queensland bottle trees reflecting the native African baobab tree and mock kopjes.

Tiger Temple : This exhibit houses both Sumatran and Bengal tigers. The exhibit built to resemble the Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia. It is enclosed on two sides by glass and includes an underwater viewing area.

Elephantasia : Asian themed exhibit that opened in 2006, and was the largest Asian elephant enclosure in Australia.

South-East Asian Precinct : Other Asian animals have been moved into exhibits close to Tiger Temple and Elephantasia that have been designed to mimic their native environments. Animals in this precinct include Komodo dragons, red pandas, Asian small-clawed otters, and Burmese pythons.

Rainforest Aviary : The Rainforest Aviary is an outdoor walk-through aviary housing about 150 birds, most of which are native to Australia.


Food Court

Australia Zoo caters provide a wide variety of tastes food, for birthday parties at Food Court. The Food Court offers an extensive menu that includes breakfast, burgers, pizzas, salads, sushi, hot take away, sandwiches, coffees and yummy desserts.

Getting at Australia Zoo :

By Air : The nearest airport to Australia Zoo is the Sunshine Coast Airport which open 24 hours a day and located on Friendship Avenue, Marcoola in the heart of the Sunshine Coast.

By Rail : The QR Citytrain has a seven-day service that operates between the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Beerwah. The Australia Zoo courtesy coach meets most trains at the Beerwah Rail Station to transfer passengers to the Zoo. If the bus is not at the station, simply call the Zoo on 5436 2000

By Car : The Sunshine Coast is easily accessible by a number of major highways which dissect the region. It is approximately 60 minutes driving time from Brisbane via the Bruce Highway.
