Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is an art museum in Washington, D.C., the United States. The museum is gift during the 1960s with the permanent art collection of Joseph H. Hirshhorn. It is develop by architect Gordon Bunshaft. This Museum is part of the Smithsonian Institution.

It design as the United States’ museum of contemporary and modern art. Famous for selection building and exhibition preparing on the post–World War II time. Museum specific emphasis on art made during the last 50 years.

The Hirshhorn locate between the Washington Monument and the US Capitol. Hirshhorn Museum anchoring the southernmost end of the so called L’Enfant axis.

The building itself is an interest, compare by some to a large spacecraft parked on the National Mall. Hirshhorn building is an open cylinder elevate on four massive legs. A large water fountain taking up the central courtyard.
