Sri Harmandir Sahib known as also Sri Darbar Sahib and informally known as the Golden Temple. It is the holiest Gurdwara of Sikhism which is situatedin the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India. Amritsar establish in 1574 by the fourth Sikh guru, Guru Ram Das. The fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan develope the Harmandir Sahib to be construct in the center of this holy tank. After construction, install the Adi Granth, the holy scripture of Sikhism, inside the Harmandir Sahib. The Harmandir Sahib complex is also home to the Akal Takht. Akal Takht stands for the throne of the timeless one, constituted by the Sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind. The Harmandir Sahib is consider as the residence of God’s spiritual feature, the Akal Takht is the seat of God’s temporary authority.
The construction of Harmandir Sahib is design to built a place of worship for men and women from all walks of life and all faiths to come and worship God equally. The four entrances to get into the Harmandir Sahib also indicate the openness of the Sikhs towards all people and religions. Over 100,000 persons visit the holy shrine daily for worship, and also partake together in the free community kitchen and meal (Langar) no matter of any differences. It is a custom that is a hallmark of all Sikh Gurudwaras.
The Harmandir Sahib basically means the Temple of God. Guru Amar Das had directed Guru Ram Das to make a nectarous sarovar as a place for worship for the Sikh religion. Guru Ram Das commanded all his Sikhs to join in the work, under Bhai Budha’s superintendence and involved labourers to guide them. According to him, the sarovar of nectar should be God’s home and whoever given a bath in it shall acquire all religious and temporary advantages. During the progress of the work, the hut in which the Guru first shelter himself is expand for his residence; it is now known as the Guru’s Mahal, or palace.
